I always take the second column in May to focus on the crazed events of upfront presentation week. I was going to explain how cost cutting was about to take its toll on the once lavish festivities. I was also going to complain that CBS no longer foots the bill for entertainment by mega-stars like Celine Dion or Faith Hill. And I planned to express my concern on how times are changing--and not necessarily for the good.

Turner Sports has tapped Matthew Hong as vp/general manager, sports digital for the company's new-media division, effective May 19. In his new role, Hong will be oversee business operations and editorial for Turner Sports' new-media portfolio, which includes NASCAR.com, PGATour.com and PGA.com, as well as the broadband channels TNT OverTime on NBA.com and TBS Hot Corner on MLB.com. Hong comes to Turner from the academic publisher Cengage Learning, where he served as vp and general manager of interactive media. Prior to Cengage, Hong spent seven years at America Online, serving in a variety of senior management positions.
