Primetime: The Outsiders (ABC)
-Yesterday’s Losers (Excluding Repeats):

-Ratings Breakdown:
NBC won this second Tuesday of July in the overnights, beating No. 2 CBS by 11 percent. But the network to beat among adults 18-49 is either ABC, which finished third overall in the overnights, or the home of Hell’s Kitchen, Fox.
Summer ABC hit Wipeout tied a repeat of CBS’ NCIS for dominance from 8-9 p.m., each with a 6.3 rating/11 share in the overnights. Comparably, Wipeout built by nine percent from one week earlier, with a series-high performance. Take a look at the three-week Wipeout metered market track:
June 24: 6.2/11
July 1: 5.8/10
July 8: 6.3/11
Also airing in the 8 p.m. hour was NBC’s Celebrity Family Feud (#3: 5.1/ 9 -- congratulations, The Office), Fox’s waning The Moment of Truth (3.4/ 6), and a repeat of the CW’s Beauty and the Geek (0.9/ 2). Too bad the CW did not order a new season of a former Mr. TV summer favorite: Amish in the City. The positive news for Celebrity Family Feud, meanwhile, was a performance on par with one week earlier.
NBC moved into the 9 p.m. winner’s circle care of a one-hour version of America’s Got Talent at a 7.9/12 in the overnights. Comparably, that built from the second-half of lead-in Celebrity Family Feud (5.1/ 8 at 8:30 p.m.) by a hefty 55 percent. Second in the hour was the season-finale of Hell’s Kitchen on Fox (5.9/10), followed by CBS’ 48 Hours Mystery (5.2/ 9), ABC’s I Survived a Japanese Game Show (4.0/ 7), and a repeat of the CW’s Reaper (1.0/ 2). Hell’s Kitchen, which increased by 64 percent from the second-half of lead-in The Moment of Truth (3.6/ 6 at 8:30 p.m.), will win the hour with ease among target adults 18-49. I Survived a Japanese Game Show, meanwhile, continues to lose a large chunk of the Wipeout lead-in.
Top-rated overnight honors at 10 p.m. went to a repeat of NBC’s Law & Order: SVU (5.3/ 9), which benefited no doubt from the ample support of lead-in America’s Got Talent. Second was ABC’s Primetime: The Outsiders (5.1/ 9), which deserves accolades for building by 38 percent from the second-half of lead-in I Survived a Japanese Game Show (3.7/ 6 at 9:30 p.m.). And last was a repeat of CBS’ recently relocated Without a Trace at a 4.6/ 8.

National Ratings in Prime-Time:
Week of June 30, 2008
CBS and Fox remain the networks to beat in the early dog days of summer, with CBS first in households and total viewers (for five out of the last six weeks) and Fox No. 1 in the three key demos -- adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and adults 18-34 -- for the week of June 30. Year-to-year, Fox increased by margins of 6 to 16 percent (with no change among adults 18-34), while CBS dipped by as much as 20 percent in adults 18-34.
Led by America’s Got Talent, NBC finished second across the board, with growth of 12 to 27 percent in the five surveyed categories. ABC, which finished third demographically, was also on the plus side care of week two of Wipeout. But struggling new Friday reality/competition Dance Machine is just begging for the axe to swing. Perennial fifth-place occupant the CW continues to lose steam (and will not benefit when Friday Night Smackdown! heads to MyNetworkTV), while last-place MyNetworkTV posted losses in total viewers and adults 18-49.
Here are the final national ratings for the week of June 30, 2008 (with percent change versus the comparable year-ago week in parentheses), followed by the summer series scorecard and the top 20 ranked programs of the week. Keep in mind that the week included the 4th of July holiday.

It's a rare condition, this day and age,
to read any good news on the newspaper page.
Love and tradition of the grand design,
some people say it's even harder to find.
Well then there must be some magic clue inside these tearful walls
Cause all I see is a tower of dreams
real love burstin' out of every seam.
As days go by,
we're gonna fill our house with happiness.
The moon may cry,
we're gonna smother the blues with tenderness.
When days go by,
there's room for you,
room for me,
for gentle hearts an opportunity.
As days go by,
it's the bigger love of the family.
