FiOS TV Subscriber Base Increases

Oct 26, 2009

-By Georg Szalai

Verizon continued to grow its FiOS TV subscriber base, but did so at a slower pace than in the first two quarters of the year and in the year-ago period.

The telecom giant said it added 191,000 new net customers to FiOS TV, which competes with cable and satellite TV providers. That brought its total user base to 2.7 million as of Sept. 30.

The additions were down from 233,000 in the year-ago period and also marked a weakening from record levels earlier in the year. In the first and second quarters, it had added 299,000 and a record 303,000 FiOS TV subscribers, respectively.

Last week, AT&T had also reported a sequential slowdown, but year-over-year growth in customer gains for its U-verse video service.

Verizon on Monday also reported 198,000 net new FiOS Internet customer additions, bringing its total to 3.3 million.

Verizon posted a third-quarter profit decline of more than 30 percent to $1.18 billion amid strong wireless growth for AT&T and Apple's iPhone.

2009-11-20

It was business as usual on Thursday, with CBS first in the overnights, and ABC expected to win the evening overall among adults 18-49 thanks to the ongoing strength of Grey’s Anatomy. Third in the metered markets was vastly improved Fox (which was up 58 percent year-to-year), followed by NBC and The CW.
