Viral video pioneer JibJab appears to have another presidential
campaign-themed hit on its hand, as it's latest parody clip “Time
for Some Campaignin,” released on Wednesday (July 16),
generated well over a million views in its first 24 hours on the
Web.
The lion's share of that streaming took place on MSN Video, which
inked an ad sales and distribution partnership with JibJab back in
2005. The clip was viewed nearly 870,000 times on the site on day
one, while MySpace (255,000-plus views) and YouTube (over 100,00)
also saw significant traffic spikes. On MSN, the video is preceded
by a pre-roll ad produced by the Gillette Venus Embrace razor,
while on YouTube the clip included an overlay ad for Bank of
America.
Time for Some Campaignin features animated versions of President
Bush, Vice President Cheney, Sen. Hillary Clinton, and of course
candidates Sen. John McCain and Sen. Barack Obama singing about
this year's White House race to the tune of Bob Dylan's The Times
They Are A-Changin'. In the goofy, irreverent clip, Obama is seen
riding a unicorn while McCain is seen collapsing in a hospital
while hooked to an IV.
Viewership was increasing as of Friday morning for
Campaignin, approaching a million views on MSN Video--where
it's received prominent placement--while exceeding 300,000 on
YouTube and nearing a similar threshold on MySpace. Still, the clip
has a long way to go to reach the viral phenomenon status of This
Land, the clip which satirized the 2004 race between President Bush
and Sn Kerry, which essentially put JibJab on the map. That video,
according to some reports, was viewed 80 million times during the
campaign.
