Tina Fey’s dead-on impression of vp candidate Sarah Palin, along with the return of new episodes of several shows, which are popular among the watch-TV-on-the-Web crowd, appear to have lifted NBC’s Web site to new heights.

The network reported that NBC.com set multiple traffic records in September, including close to 25 million unique users based on its internal data. That’s an increase of roughly 44 percent versus the previous high.

Nearly 36 percent of those site visitors, or 8.9 million uniques, watched some sort of video on the site--either short or long form clips. As a result, NBC.com generated 28.8 million streams, a healthy increase of 29 percent versus the previous record of 22.4 million streams.

NBC executives credited Saturday Night Live, which has enjoyed megabuzz over the past month from Fey’s two appearances as Palin, as well as fans logging on to stream full length episodes of the returning shows Heroes, The Office and The Biggest Loser. According to NBC’s numbers, those viewers seeking full length episodes of primetime hits watched for an average of 84.3 minutes—indicating that many were using the site to catch up on last season.
