-By Katy Bachman

NBC Local Media has create a new top management structure.

Greg Scholl has joined the NBC Universal local media division in the newly created position of president, local media platforms. Scholl’s first day will be Nov. 2, reporting to John Wallace, president of NBC Local Media.

In his new position, Scholl will work to evolve and grow NBC Local Media’s business, which includes TV stations, local Web sites, and NBC Everywhere, a portfolio of digital out-of-home networks.

As part of the reorganization, two of NBC Local Media’s executives were promoted. Brian Buchwald, senior vp of local integrated media, was named executive vp of the group, adding oversight of NBC Everywhere. Mark French, who previously served, as senior vp and general manager of NBC Everywhere will take on the new role of senior vp and general manager of Local Enterprise Solutions, a newly formed unit charged with using local media to drive value across NBC Universal’s other businesses.

Buchwald, French and Morgan Hertzan, senior vp and general manager of LX.TV, NBC Local Media’s production unit, will report to Scholl.

Most recently president and CEO of The Orchard, a global digital media services company, Scholl is recognized as a leader in the digital media sector. Under his leadership, The Orchard was transformed from a physical distributor of unsigned bands into a global digital distributor and marketer encompassing music, video and brands. Prior to the Orchard, Scholl was an associate partner McKinsey & Co. in its media and entertainment practice.

“I’m pleased that we were able to recruit an executive of Greg’s caliber to help continue our momentum as we rethink our approach to local media in a digital environment,” Wallace said. “Greg has demonstrated his ability to create a global digital business around a traditional media asset, developing new distribution platforms and business models.”
