They're popping champagne corks at WBZ, CBS Television's
owned-and-operated station in Boston. For the first time in 15
years, that's 123 consecutive ratings periods, WBZ came in No. 1 in
late news at 11 p.m. in the May ratings sweeps period. The station,
with a 2.7/9 rating/share among Adults 25-54 bested WCVB,
Hearst-Argyle Television's ABC affiliate, which still took the top
spot in all other local newscasts.
In addition to scoring the top spot among the coveted 25-54 demo,
WBZ's late news, was No. 1 among all other demos.
WBZ attributed its growth to an aggressive re-branding campaign,
which h=has been underway in the market for the better part of the
year. The station also made changes to how it delivers the news,
working to develop content franchises.
