Vogue's new publisher Susan Plagemann

Condé Nast announced that it has hired Susan Plagemann as vp, publisher of Vogue, while expanding publishing director Tom Florio’s role.

Plagemann came from rival Hearst Magazines, where she had the same title at Marie Claire. She fills the role previously held by Florio, who was publisher of Vogue in addition to having a publishing director title.

Vogue recently had a high-level departure in Connie Anne Phillips,  who had the title of managing director there before decamping for the publisher spot at Time Inc.’s In Style in February.

Plagemann will report to Tom Florio, senior vp, publishing director for Vogue and Teen Vogue, and in an expansion of his role, Bon Appétit and Condé Nast Traveler.

Traveler was previously overseen by group president David Carey, who still oversees Golf and Wired magazines. Explaining the shift, a Condé Nast spokesperson said that as a former publisher of Traveler, Florio has specific knowledge of the title.

Vogue remains an advertising powerhouse, but its ad pages declined 32.3 percent to 1,807 this year through November, putting it third place in terms of ad pages behind In Style and Hachette Filipacchi Media’s Elle, per the Mediaweek Monitor.

2009-11-20

It was business as usual on Thursday, with CBS first in the overnights, and ABC expected to win the evening overall among adults 18-49 thanks to the ongoing strength of Grey’s Anatomy. Third in the metered markets was vastly improved Fox (which was up 58 percent year-to-year), followed by NBC and The CW.

It’s almost Thanksgiving, and incredibly this is my sixth annual column dedicated to the best and worst on the small screen. And as always, there are plenty of turkeys stuffing up the airwaves just waiting to be plucked by Mr. TV.
