Newsstand publisher Bauer Publishing Group contributed to the mounting body count in the magazine industry this week, laying off five editorial people from celeb weekly Life & Style.

Separately, Forbes laid off staff as it killed Web vertical ForbesAutos.com and scaled back ForbesTraveler.com and closed its conference business.

"In an effort to be more efficient in this challenging economy, Life & Style is going through a small editorial staff restructuring,” a Bauer spokesperson said. “Not unlike other publishing companies, we are looking at ways to streamline and maximize our resources."

While not heavily dependent on advertising revenue, Life & Style has shown a sharp falloff in ad pages this year; through its Nov. 3 issue, pages dropped 15.5 percent to 464, per the Mediaweek Monitor. Bigger sibling In Touch notched an 11.7 percent increase to 983 in the same period. Both titles published one more title in 2007 versus ’08.
