Gina Sanders

Gina Sanders, a veteran Condé Nast publisher with roots in fashion, retail and beauty magazines, was named president and CEO of the Fairchild Fashion Group, the company’s B2B fashion unit.

She succeeds Richard Beckman, who left to become CEO of e5 Global Media, a newly formed media company whose brands include AdweekMedia (which includes Mediaweek), The Hollywood Reporter and Billboard.

Sanders, known for being ambitious and aggressive, was among a handful of internal publishing executives who were seen as possible successors to Beckman and for whom the B2B division was viewed as a stepping stone to the CEO job. Others included Bill Wackermann, Tom Florio and David Carey.

Sanders has spend more than 20 years at Condé Nast at a number of titles, most recently serving as vp, publisher of shopping title Lucky. She also was publisher of Teen Vogue, Gourmet and Details. Condé Nast is expected to name her replacement at Lucky in the next couple days.

In her post at Fairchild, which is effective Feb. 1, Sanders will oversee WWD, Footwear News, Fairchild Summits and Fairchild Books; and report to Condé Nast president and CEO Chuck Townsend. The division, like the company’s consumer magazines, has struggled; a little over a year ago, it folded DNR, a men’s fashion trade.

Sanders didn’t offer specifics about her plans but said she saw the new job as a way to continue what she’s been doing on a broader scale.

“I’ve been a passionate reader of Women’s Wear my entire career and to make a contribution to such an authoritative and influential organization is something I’m very excited about,” Sanders said. “The whole B2B area is a very dynamic one and provides lots of opportunities.”
