In a bid for Hispanic mothers and moms-to-be, Meredith Corp. is
rebranding two of its Spanish-language parenting titles under the
umbrella of its growing Hispanic parenthood magazine, Ser
Padres.
Ser Padres launched in 1990 as an offshoot of Parents. Earlier this
year, it folded in Healthy Kids en Español while increasing its
frequency and rate base to eight times and 700,000.
Starting in April 2009, Espera, for expectant mothers; and 12
Meses, focusing on the first year of life, will be renamed Ser
Padres Espera and Ser Padres Bebe, respectively. Alberto Oliva,
editor of Ser Padres, will take over responsibility of the two
titles from Siempre Mujer, Meredith’s Spanish-language women’s
lifestyle magazine.
Ser Padres Espera, which is distributed in doctors’ offices, will
increase its frequency to three from two times a year and grow its
distribution by 35 percent to just over 1 million. Ser Padres Bebe
will continue to be distributed in maternity wards; its annual
distribution will remain 600,000.
On the online front, Ser Padres also will launch a blog
(Mimosblog.com) on Aug. 4 for Hispanic mothers, with interactive
features and bilingual options.
