MLB Network's Bill Morningstar

Bill Morningstar is leaving his post as head of advertising sales for the CW Network to oversee ad sales at the Major League Baseball Network, which will launch this January, according to sources familiar with the situation.

Morningstar has been executive vp of ad sales at the CW since the network was founded two years ago in a merger between the WB and UPN networks. Prior to that, Morningstar was head of ad sales for the WB. He was one of the executives who joined the WB when it was founded in the mid-1990s and worked his way up the sales ladder there.

Neither Morningstar or Major League Baseball officials could be reached for immediate comment and the CW would not comment.

Morningstar’s contract at the CW is reportedly up later this year.

The CW Network has been ratings-challenged in its first two years of existence and Morningstar and his staff have had to deal with heavy makegoods situations and keeping advertisers happy in the wake of ratings shortfalls.

Tony Petitti recently left his post as executive vp of CBS Sports to oversee the overall running of the MLB Network, with an emphasis on the production side.

Mr. TV: Judge and Jury

I’d never seen a syndicated court show taped in person, so I was not about to turn down a recent invitation to attend an afternoon’s worth of episodes for upcoming Sony Pictures Television gaveler Judge Karen, presided over by South Florida judge Karen Mills-Francis.
