Nielsen: 1.7 Million Still Unready for DTV

Since the June 12 transition to digital television, more than 800,000 homes have taken action to receive digital broadcasts, according to the latest count from Nielsen. As of June 28, 1.7 million or 1.5 percent of U.S. homes still remain completely unready for digital TV.

BIA Lowers TV Stations Forecast

BIA Advisory Services Wednesday (July 1) lowered its 2009 revenue forecast for TV stations from 15 percent to a 17.3 percent decline. The revised forecast of $16.6 billion is the lowest annual revenue for the TV station industry since 1995.

Miami Takes Exception With Arbitron's PPM Rollout

Headaches abound for Arbitron's portable people meter rollout. In Miami, where Univision Communications has refused to encode its signals, the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners Tuesday (June 30) adopted a resolution urging Congress, the Florida legislature and federal and state officials to "ensure" that the PPM does not under-represent minority radio listeners.

Nielsen to Increase LPM Samples in N.Y., L.A.

To better measure an increasingly fragmented TV viewing landscape, Nielsen told its clients Tuesday (June 30) it would increase its local people meter samples in New York and Los Angeles from 800 to 1,000 homes.

Congress Getting Involved in Arbitron PPM Controversy

Now Congress is getting into the controversy over Arbitron's portable people meter ratings service. Rep. Edolphus towns (D-N.Y.) chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform said Monday (June 29) he was opening an investigation into the ratings service to see if it misrepresents minority targeted radio stations.
